Practice begins...

Well the time has come...the Flyers are on the ice getting in their practice for the upcoming 2005-2006 season. If you're not a hockey fan in general, then you won't understand how ecstatic we all are. With a whole year off from the lockout, we are ready for NHL to come back to life. Monday, September 12th, the Flyers have taken to the ice. Training camp has begun. The Flyers practices are actually located at the Sovereign Bank Flyers Skate Zone in Voorhees, New Jersey. I have had the opportunity to see a practice before, and it's definitely worth while if you're a fan. After the skate session is over, the Flyers will then come out one by one after their showers and some may even come up to the fans waiting outside. Definitely worth the experience since it's about as close as you'll ever get.

Another thing the NHL is doing right now is having the official game puck make 50 stops in the 50 days leading up to the first game of the season. The Flyer's will actually be the first to use the puck opening day - maybe this is the luck of the puck the Flyers will need. Let's hope so.

Some other exciting news about the Flyers, Peter Forsberg, mentioned in the previous post, actually went under some surgery recently. However, it was a success! As taken from the
FLYERS website:

"McCrossin: “Peter had a bursa sac removed from his right ankle at Pennsylvania Hospital [Monday]. The 15-minute procedure was performed by Dr. Keith Wapner and was a success. Peter is back at the place he is staying and is resting very comfortably."

Great news all around for the Flyer's. Maybe this curse will actually be broken!

Nice Blog! I really like the layout of everything. I must confess I am not a hockey fan at all and I wonder how you are still one. I know in the 90s when Major League Baseball went on strike they lost atleast one fan, me. It was really hard for me to go back to a sport that I loved so much knowing that the players and managers were both so greedy that they didn't even care about the fans. I eventually was able to stand baseball but it is really hard for me to sit through a full game let alone a whole season. Do you think that hockey is going to have the same reaction? I think they probably wont because most people who follow hockey are complete diehard fans, considering they have such a long season. Keep up the work on the blog.

Heather,

Perfect topic for a blog. I have been a Flyers fan ever since I can remember, way back when the Legion of Doom was alive with LIndros, LeClair, Renberg. But it seems like every year no matter how stellar a season the Flyers are having, something goes wrong. Either the coach puts in the wrong players at the wrong time, our goalie chokes (Brian Bouche!), or a team out of no where (Tampa Bay Lightning) come along and steal way the cup. I think this season though the Flyers made a lot of key pick-ups, but might have lost a lot of depth. Recchi is without a doubt the MVP the last season the Flyers played. He and LeCLair were hometown favorites, and it is a shame they never got their due respect from the fans since they were traded during the off-season. Anyway, looking forward to reading about the Flyers and what you have to say.

Thanks,
Seth

I am so excited for this season to start and am so excited that you have a blog where we can cheer and vent (if the need arises). I have been a hockey fan forever. Last season was tough, as you well know, without my favorite sport to watch. I didn't know about the 50 stops for the puck and I think it's awesome that we are the first use it. I totally agree with you that it may be the lucky break that we need. I have never been a fair weather fan and always think that they can win, even if they are down a ton of goals with barely any time left. I think that they really have a chance this season!
